Saskia specialises in post-natal fitness and health and is also a mum who understands the specific needs of post-natal women. As a new mum it's often hard to find the time to maintain or improve your fitness, whilst staying healthy and nurturing your wellbeing.

Saskia explains, "Following my first pregnancy I was keen to lose the extra weight I had gained and achieve a good level of fitness, health and well being. Having experienced various back complaints and suffering from pubic synthesis dysfunction (fairly common both during and after pregnancy), I was wary of getting into 'mainstream' exercise.

I soon discovered that apart from yoga, there were very few fitness sessions designed for the post-natal mum - a class that looked after the needs of me and my baby. I found aerobics too high-impact, as I was building up my pelvic floor strength following labour. At this point I decided to start fit4me post-natal fitness sessions - specially created for the post-natal mum and their baby or babies!".

Many newly pregnant mums put time and energy into looking after themselves during pregnancy - which is so important for them and their baby (or babies) - but it's important to remember that our bodies need the same care and attention after pregnancy.  At this time we are healing and recovering from the labour and birth, whilst replenishing whatever pregnancy and the birthing process has taken out of us, or what it has brought!

I attended Saskia's fit4me post-natal class when my baby was 6 weeks old. I couldn't wait to regain my fitness and meet other mums. I did spend lots of weeks feeding and rocking Olivia inbetween squats and situps but I just loved being in the class so much that it didn't matter if I couldn't join in everything. I learnt some really helpful exercises that I could do at home and still do now, 9 months on. Saskia is a great motivator and understands the needs of a postnatal mum and her baby. I highly recommend the class! Anne - post-natal classes

Following your pregnancy, you may have extra weight gain, back pain, achy joints, be less mobile, tender and sore as your body has been stretched and put through some major changes. Now is the time to slowly regain your fitness levels and bring strength back to areas of the body that have been left weaker and in need of attention.

You can join these post-natal fitness sessions once you have had your 6 - 8 week check with your health care professional and you are ok to exercise.

I actively encourage all post-natal mums to build their fitness up gradually, working at your own pace with support to achieve yor goals whatever they may be. Every new joining member will complete a PARQ (health and medical questionnaire) which will give me an indication of any areas I might need to be aware of.
